Using web based applications like Hoylu can help aid in creating a collaborative space in the classroom. For a future PBL assignment I would love to create a blue print for a classroom garden. For this I would need a platform similar to Hoylu in order to have the whole class writing, editing and sharing in real time.

Hoylu Tutorial (Basic Version)

First I would start with assigning everyone a box and having them come up with their own idea of how the garden should be laid out with some direction. Three different plants separated by at least two columns if we were to fertilize some and not the others. Then, once they’re done we’ll talk about what everyone came up with and draw up one that incorporates a little bit of everything. This way we can make everyone a part of the planning process.

I could even use this application by sending everyone a link to a workspace in their email to have them create a big PowerPoint over what everyone has observed over the course of the PBL unit. Even importing pictures they’ve taken of the plants along the way!
